The Role

We're seeking a highly motivated and talented Senior Associate to join our client's newly established small-cap buyout fund, specializing in industrial sector investments. This is a unique, hands-on, entrepreneurial opportunity for an individual who is not only adept at financial analysis but also possesses strong operational acumen and the desire to truly roll up their sleeves.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in all aspects of the investment lifecycle, from generating and evaluating deals to actively reorganizing and optimizing portfolio companies, potentially even stepping into interim CEO/CFO roles. You'll thrive in a small firm culture that requires wearing multiple hats and taking full ownership for the outcomes of your projects, working intensely to drive value.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deal Generation & Evaluation: Proactively identify, source, and independently evaluate potential investment opportunities within the small-cap industrial sector, demonstrating a keen eye for fundamentally strong businesses.

  • Operational Transformation: Apply strong operational skills to reorganize, optimize, and improve the performance of portfolio companies, working closely with management teams to implement strategic initiatives. This includes developing and executing plans for operational efficiencies, market expansion, and technology integration, with a specific understanding of AI and relevant technology applications within industrial contexts.

  • Interim Leadership: Be willing and able to potentially act as interim CEO or CFO for acquired companies during critical transition periods, providing strong leadership and strategic direction.

  • Financial Modeling & Analysis: Develop sophisticated financial models, including LBO models, valuation analyses (DCF, precedent transactions, comparable company analysis), and value-added projections.

  • Comprehensive Due Diligence: Conduct thorough commercial, financial, operational, and legal due diligence on prospective investments, dissecting business plans, financial statements, market dynamics, and competitive landscapes.

  • Investment Memos & Presentations: Prepare detailed, high-level strategic investment memoranda and presentations for the Investment Committee, clearly articulating investment theses, risks, and potential returns. Your detail-oriented approach will be critical here.

  • Portfolio Company Monitoring & Value Creation: Support the active monitoring and management of portfolio companies, focusing on driving strategic initiatives, operational improvements, and achieving growth targets.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Effectively engage and build rapport with diverse stakeholders.

  • Market Research: Conduct in-depth research on industrial sub-sectors, market trends, and competitive landscapes to identify attractive investment themes.

  • Transaction Execution: Assist in all phases of transaction execution, including deal structuring, negotiation support, and closing processes.

Key Requisites:

  • Experience: 4-6 years of experience within a private equity fund, buyout firm or search fund, with a demonstrated track record of involvement in industrial sector transactions and operational value creation.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from a top-tier university in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related quantitative field. An MBA or CFA is a plus but not required.

  • Technical Acumen: Exceptional financial modeling, valuation, and analytical skills are paramount. Proven ability to create value-added projections. Understanding of AI and technology integration within industrial businesses.

  • Operational Prowess: Demonstrable strong operational skills, with experience in or a clear aptitude for reorganizing businesses, driving efficiencies, and implementing strategic improvements. Willingness to act as interim management.

  • Industry Knowledge: Demonstrated interest in and understanding of industrial businesses, including sub-sectors such as manufacturing, distribution, specialized services, industrials technology, etc. Prior exposure to operational aspects of industrial businesses is a significant plus.
